Guest Blogging

Sojourner at A Pagan Sojourn once again has asked me to participate as a guest blogger - this time while she is away in New Orleans next week helping to build new houses for Habitat for Humanity. There will be four of us holding down the fort while Sojourner is away, representing Wiccan, Buddhist, Druid and Heathen faith traditions.

My fellow guest bloggers are:

Bernulf at A Heathen Blog - Expanding Inward

Jeff at Druid Journal

Mike at Unknowing Mind

On Monday, Wednesday and Friday of next week we'll each be posting on a particular topic, which should present a unique opportunity to see how members of these different faiths view the same subject. I'll be cross-posting my entries here, but I hope that everyone will visit A Pagan Sojourn and the other blogs to read what the other participants are writing.

Thanks, Sojourner! I'm happy to be invited back as a guest on one of my favorite pagan blogs and wish you the best of luck in New Orleans!

hello! i'm new in your link so i would like to introduce myself. i am a solitary practitioner of the craft. i am 25 years old and a man.. i have been introduced to the craft just recently these past 3 years. ever since i felt that i am a natural empath.
What i would like to develop is my telekinetic skills and finding my spirit guides safely; and to be learning divination properly.. i have faith that you will be able to help me in answering my questions and at least guide me in my path. i am very much aware of the Wiccan Rede and am a good follower of the 3 threefold law... thanks and Blessed be....

Welcome to the craft, cosmic astral. Learning to practice the craft ethically, safely and effectively is something that takes time, dedication and work. One of the best things you can do is to find a good mentor or teacher who can guide you and teach you the lessons you'll need to know to develop your own approach to magick and to apply your natural gifts. Depending on where you live, that may be easier said than done. There are a number of good books out there that can offer you a place to start. For example, my teacher, Christopher Penczak, has a great book on how to meet and work with your spirit guides: Spirit Allies. This is just one of a number of books that touches on how to bring shamanic techniques into your practice of the craft.

As far as divination goes, I started with tarot and that's what I would recommend for you. Find a deck you like and a book that describes the divinatory meanings of the cards. Do a reading for yourself every day and keep a journal, writing down your instintive reactions to the cards, what the book has to say about them, and an overall analysis of what you think the reading means. Over time you will gain a more personal understanding of the meaning of the cards and will be able to bring more insight to your readings. Practice on your friends! They'll think it's fun and will give you a chance to expand your skills beyond your own experience. Jung had some very interesting views on the tarot. I urge you to read some of his work to understand the concept of synchronicity. This is important to understanding the changing nature of tarot and how it is more of a signpost than an iron-clad prediction.

I don't know anything about telekinesis. But this is a very advanced skill. My advice to you is start with the simple, basic things. Working with energy. Meditation. Connecting with spirit. Energetic protection. Those are skills that the most advanced witch will repeatedly turn to for the rest of his practice and will serve him well regardless of what type of magick you decide to pursue.

Good luck to you. And blessed be.

hello! thanks for the advice you have given me with regards to witchcraft... i would just like to say that i also have a book entitled "Develop Your Psychic Powers". it says in one of the chapters there, on how to know your spirit guides in detail... My only fear is that if ever i perform the ritual and call on to my spirit guides, i might conjure or invite those uninvited malevolent spirits also. Is there some ritual to perform before this ritual to call on the spirit allies? I have a banishing ritual of the pentagram in my BOS, perhaps this will work? Or perhaps a Psychic protection spell? Thanks and blessed be...

The banishing ritual of the pentagram is always a helpful thing to know in case you encounter anything that might be coming with less than helpful intentions. And yes, there are psychic protection spells. But I can't stress strongly enough the importance of learning the basics before you dive into advance practice. A good teacher or a good book on basic witchcraft will give you all of the skills that you need so that you are working magick in a way that keeps harmful energies from entering your circle in the first place. I think skipping the basics to get to the "cool" stuff is what gets a lot of beginners into trouble.

If finding your spirit allies is of utmost importance to you, find a shaman and ask him/her to take you on a journey (this may be a service for which you have to pay). The shaman will know how to guide you safely on this journey and can help you work with whatever spirits come to you.
