To sever the ties that bind
Purpose of ritual: To release yourself from lost love.
Items required: Two black candles, black thread, sharp scissors.
Suggested lunar phase: Waning moon.
Take the candles and name them, one for yourself, the other for your ex-partner. Bind the candles together with black thread, and say:
Thus we once were.
Then take the scissors and say:
I sever the ties that bound us together,
In mind, body, spirit and heart.
I sever the ties that bound us together,
For we must part.
I wish you well, I know the pain will heal,
But sever the ties and break our seal.
So mote it be.
Cut the thread and light the candle bearing your name. Take the other candle and float it away on a living body of water such as a stream or an ocean. As you do this, release all regreat and pain. Ask the waters for the gift of healing for all concerned.

To read my notes on this spell:
I chose to perform this ritual at the Dark Moon - or Black Moon. The moon was in Aquarius at the time, whose influence I hoped would strengthen my resolve to find independence from what had become a painful emotional entanglement.
I always use an exacto knife to etch words into the candles I use for working magick.
In this particular case, I chose to burn the only picture I had left of the two of us as a physical representation of a final, complete parting.
